Spodumene
Spodumene is a lithium aluminium silicate, one of the rare lithium minerals. The source for this mineral is the world's largest pegmatite deposit near Greenbushes, Australia. Talison operates the open pit mine and the processing facility.
In glass, spodumene is used in the production of flaconage, container glass, tableware and fiberglass, lighting glass and glass ceramics.
In ceramics, spodumene is used in the production of gres porcellanato tiles, sanitaryware, tableware, frits and glazes.
In metallurgy, spodumene is used in the production of continuous casting powder, foundry coating and cores.
As the exclusive European distributor of Sons of Gwalia in Australia, the world’s largest spodumene producer, we supply especially developed spodumene products for the glass industry. These offer a cost efficient lithiumoxide source adjusted to each specific application. Highest product quality and product homogeneity are secured by applying extensive quality control during production and transport. In collaboration with Sons of Gwalia, OTAVI also offers lithium carbonate, a chemical with a much higher concentra-tion of lithium.
